HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORT

As you are aware, Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake on Saturday, August 14th, the second in 10 years. In addition, a tropical storm lashed the island with heavy rains and wind on Monday and Tuesday. The death toll has reached nearly 2,000, with nearly 10,000 injured, and 84,000 homes destroyed or damaged.  The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is collecting financial donations to aid in the relief effort.  Roland Fernandes, the top executive of UMCOR states, “UMCOR stands firm in its commitment to alleviate suffering and is working with partners on how to best meet basic and immediate needs, as it has done in the past.

If you would like to support this relief effort, you may use the envelope provided in the bulletin, give online at the church website, or mail your contribution to the church. Please make out checks to MVUMC with “Haiti Relief Fund” noted in the memo space.

MVUMC continues to strive to make a difference in the world.
