At Mesa Verde UMC we're always up to something! For events where we need a headcount, there is usually a sign-up sheet on the patio between services. If you can't make it then, just call the church office. They will be happy to put you in touch with the person in charge of that event. And if you need a ride, call the office, too. Fri. & Sat., Aug. 13 & 14, Directory Photos, Fellowship Hall

As part of our 50th anniversary commemoration, we will be putting out a new church directory, complete with photos. The photographers will be here in August and again in September. Sign-ups have started on the patio, or you can schedule yourself and your family online. If you want to do the latter, the link is here. No cost to you, and you get a free 8x10 photo. (You can buy more if you'd like.) The more pics we have in the photo section of the directory, the more pages we get at the front, so be sure to support this effort! Wed., Aug. 18, 6-8 pm, Night Out On the Bluffs, Corona del Mar

Our annual UMW trek to the bluffs overlooking Balboa Island and the ocean is scheduled for mid-August. Bring an hors d'oeuvre, a chair, and a jacket. Drinks and paper goods will be provided. Plan to car pool as parking is tight there in the summer; car pools will leave the church lot at 5:30 pm. This is our unofficial kick-off to the fall season of UMW; all women are welcome. Wed.-Sun., Aug. 18-22, MVUMC Music Ministry Family Involvement Week, various venues 

There are a slew of things going on that week - Bell and Chancel Choir rehearsals and a concert for the church, an evening of remembering all those choir concerts (complete with videos), and special music on Sunday. For details, go to the Music Ministry page. Greg Norton, David Irvine, Eliza Rubenstein, and Matt Martinez will be there. Mark Your 2010 Calendars Now! Mesa Verde UMC has turned 50, and we want to celebrate! Currently, plans are under way for a series of luncheons highlighting each decade of the church, starting with the 1960s.

To that end, we have invited past ministers of the church to be our guests – and to spend some time reminiscing about church life “back then,” and there's a reunion planned for the youth and another for the choirs. The following dates have been reserved:

  • Jan. 31 – Richmond Johnson
  • Mar. 7 – Youth Celebration
  • May 23 – Bill Steel
  • Jun. 13 – Dick George and Stephanie Toon-Glassman
  • Aug. 18-22 – Choirs Reunion
